You Don’t Need “Fixing”


Everywhere you turn is another treatment to overcome how you’re feeling, or transform you into a higher-functioning human being.

This vast array of anti-anxiety, anti-depression, self-regulation and mind/body-control techniques, all send the very clear message: You, in your current state, is not ideal.

It leaves many fighting against their own body, believing they need to release “toxic” energy, manage “dis-regulated” emotions, challenge “irrational” thoughts, and control “self-destructive” impulses.

How Fast… ?

I know, I know, results like this can look highly suspicious!
To be honest I was taken by surprise myself! Even I wasn’t expecting things to move quite this quickly.

But after working with over 100 people I am utterly convinced; Treating shame through Unshaming works, and it works really fast!

This isn’t a gimmick or dodgy quick-fix, it comes down to good old-fashioned (albeit next level) emotional intelligence, radical acceptance and the powerful treatment of shame over symptoms.

What’s the Difference?


I’ve personally never met a client whose “issues” weren’t actually caused by shame (and I’ve worked with many, many, from mild procrastination to severe dissociation and psychosis, and everything in-between), yet treating shame is not the focus of most therapies.

This is why I believe the whole narrative around mental health NEEDS TO CHANGE from correcting and controlling (teaching and training unruly emotions and impulses back in line!) to humility and respect (to learn FROM a person’s experience and instincts, and be guided by it.)

The problem is that shame is little discussed and even less understood. Most therapies aim to achieve two things:

1) Reduce or relieve unwanted thoughts and feelings
2) Control unwanted behaviour

…but what if this misses the incredible wisdom and healing potential within those “negative” thoughts, emotions or impulses?


Without an understanding of shame, any attempt at symptom-manage, or system-manage, will only repress or redirect the issue, so the symptoms return time and time again, or reappear in seemingly unrelated forms (eg. inexplicable physical health issues such as IBS or auto-immune disease etc)

Who is SJ?

My name is SJ (Sarah-Jane Ethan) and I’m an independent emotional reconnection coach. I am not a licensed mental health practitioner but I do have a diploma and over 22 years experience of caring and counselling. My passion, and my practice, is a beautiful therapy called Unshaming. 

Unshaming is about believing in you.

I believe you don’t need an expert to “fix” you, you need a witness to trust you… so you know how to trust yourself.

I believe you, and your body, are the expert on you and your life!

I believe your mental health “issues” are part of the solution NOT the problem!

I believe in how you’re feeling and want to understand and integrate it, not regulate or modify it.

I believe in your anxiety. I believe in it’s beautiful wisdom and ability to reconnect you with emotions that have been silenced and censored.
